The history of the village goes back several centuries
During the reign of Philip II, king of Macedonia (4th century BC), in mount Aggistro there were many iron and gold mines which along with mines of Mount Pangeon they funded the pan-Hellenic military excursion against the Persians with the expedition of Alexander the Great into Asia. In the same era, the hot springs were exploited assuring a continuous human presence throughout the centuries. The stone-built Byzantine bath and the tower in the center of the village which functioned as a clock-tower during the 14th century are dating back to 950 A.D. During the Ottoman Occupation of Greece the village was called Tsingeli while the Bey of the area with his harem enjoyed bath's thermal waters. According to tradition, the stone tower was used as a prison and as a place of execution. In the four corners of the tower there are protrusions on the stones that used for setting up gallows for executions.
